Hey Midcurrent,
I have some exciting staff updates to share with you today. Beginning on Tuesday, August 25, we will be welcoming Rhea Yang to the MC staff! If that name sounds familiar, that’s because Rhea is the wife of our new associate youth pastor, Sam Yang.
Rhea will be stepping into a new role we have recently created, as well as helping to fill the worship leading role created by Josh O’Meara’s recent transition. Let me fill you in on all the details.
Earlier this summer, and prior to learning of Josh’s transition, the LEAD Team at Midcurrent approved the creation of a new part-time role that would help to alleviate many of the discipleship-focused demands on Pastor Jonathan’s expanding list of responsibilities. The position we created was for a Next Steps Director—someone whose role was to create and implement a pathway designed to help people to take a next step in their relationship with Jesus as well as a next step in relationship with others at Midcurrent.
Rhea applied for the job, shared of the calling she was sensing toward discipleship-focused ministry, and expressed her enthusiasm for the possibility of serving at Midcurrent.
Between Rhea’s first interview in early July and a second interview that was scheduled for late July, we learned of Josh’s resignation from his role as our worship director. It was at that point that a unique opportunity presented itself.
Both Rhea and Sam happen to be gifted musicians and have served as effective worship leaders in prior ministry settings. As our team began to consider the possibility of Rhea and Sam helping to meet our worship leading needs, Rhea and Sam simultaneously began thinking to themselves, “hey, maybe we can help!
And that’s exactly what they will do. Rhea has accepted the part-time role as our new Next Steps Director and will also assume (on an initial interim basis) the primary worship leading responsibilities for Sunday morning and MC Youth worship experiences. And in an effort to help Rhea juggle multiple roles, Sam has also agreed to share leading responsibilities as well. Some Sundays and Wednesdays Rhea will lead worship, and some Sundays and Wednesdays Sam will! And regardless of who leads when, we are more than confident of the ways our entire church will be led into the presence of God in our worship through music.
Rhea’s first day in the office with us will be on August 25, and her first Sunday on the stage will be September 13. We can’t wait for our whole church to meet Rhea, and we know she is looking forward to meeting all of you!
These are exciting times. God continues to provide. And we have much to look forward to in this next season at Midcurrent. We’d appreciate your prayers for it all!
Thanks, Sten
