Hey Midcurrent,
I hope you’re enjoying the start of summer!
As you may know, our lead pastor Sten is on sabbatical for the summer… which means there’s a new sheriff in town! In all seriousness, I’m genuinely excited and honored to help lead during this season.
I wanted to share a story in light of our last sermon series, Missed Calls. Back in college, I had a professor who brought a giant cheese ball tub to class—you know, like the ones you see at Costco (feel free to Google it if you’re lost). But instead of cheese balls, it was filled with random items. He invited a student to pick one out, and then explained how that item symbolized a “God story” – a moment in his life when God showed up in a powerful way. The professor then went on to share the story that item symbolized.
I’ve never forgotten that cheese ball tub. I love the idea of something tangible that sparks a story, something that reminds us of God’s faithfulness. But more than that, I love the idea of having a life full of those kinds of stories.
That’s my hope for you. That’s my hope for us at Midcurrent. That we’d be people, and a church, overflowing with stories of how God has shown up in our lives.
That idea was part of the inspiration for our last sermon series, Missed Calls. We looked at people in the Bible who missed a moment or opportunity with Jesus—who missed what could have been an incredible God story. My hope is that we’d learn from their experiences so we don’t make the same mistakes.
So here’s my encouragement to you this week:
Think about what it means to fill your life with God stories—because they seem to happen the most when our eyes are open, our ears are listening, and our hearts are willing to follow Jesus… even when it’s costly or uncomfortable.
I hope you gain another story or two this week 🙂
