As I write to you today, I am less than 24 hours away from a summer sabbatical that has been a year in the making. I am so grateful to our church and our leadership for offering to me this time to rest, recharge, and allow God to renew my vision for our church for years to come! I am grateful to our staff–Jonathan, Carley, and Becki– for their support and for what I know will be their steady leadership at Midcurrent.

As I prepare to step into this summer season, I realize I have ONE wish for all of you while I am away. It’s not that you would stay engaged this summer. My one wish is that all of you would consider how you might even increase your engagement this summer. My prayer is that you wouldn’t just be asking yourself whether or not you will attend church this summer, but rather how you can be the church in greater ways. These next three months will provide a perfect opportunity for more of you to do everything you can to help us create spaces for real people and a real God to meet… to welcome the visitor, to pray with those who are hurting, to encourage those who are feeling defeated, or to even celebrate with those who are seeing God’s hand at work in their life. I truly believe that each of you has a special role to play as we seek to make significant spiritual truth accessible to everyday people on Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights, and beyond!

Your first opportunity to step up to the plate is this Sunday. It’s going to be great, I just know it!
