Hey Midcurrent,
When it comes to Sunday morning church attendance, we’ve heard it said before that the only person who likes a full house is the pastor.
Guilty as charged!! I love it when the building is packed on Sunday. The place comes alive. The singing is louder. The jokes land better (my jokes need all the help they can get). And the energy is palpable.
But, I am willing to admit that I might be the only one who really loves when it’s really crowded. Because when parking is limited, the kids check-in line is long, and open seats are lacking, it can take all of the fun (and personal space) out of showing up to church every week. And if you’ve been at Midcurrent recently, you have likely experienced all of the above.
This is something we have been monitoring closely especially in light of research that suggests when a church is 80% full, the average visitor concludes that it’s too full for them. That means that with 50 open seats still available in our auditorium (which is actually quite a lot), a visitor would conclude that there is no room for them and/or their family at Midcurrent. Folks, we cannot let that happen…especially when our one single goal is to create a space for real people and a real God to meet! And on more than one occasion in the last couple months, we’ve blown well past the 80% mark.
As a result, we’ve come to the exciting conclusion that the most missional and hospitable way to accommodate our current growth trajectory is to add a THIRD service on Sunday morning, starting on January 4, 2026.
It’s a massive undertaking for sure. But we are more than confident because we realize that we already have more than enough of one of the secret ingredients that we’ll need to pull it all off: YOU!
In order to welcome more people through our doors, we’re asking more of you to join us as we join God in the work He is doing right now at Midcurrent!
If you currently serve on a Sunday morning ministry team, your team leader will be reaching out soon to share more about what this transition will look like. If you don’t currently serve on a Sunday morning ministry team, consider this your invitation to join our efforts to roll out the red carpet to our community. And with a three services, there has never been an easier time (or more important time) to sit in one and serve in another!
I’ve asked our team to let me know how many/which new volunteers they will need to help sustain our current growth on Sunday morning. Here’s what they said would be ideal.
Josh—Worship and Production
1—Sound and Audio
3—Keyboard
1—Bass
1—Drums
1—Electric guitar
That’s 50 volunteers…and there’s 50 days till the end of 2025. So we just need ONE new volunteer everyday for the rest of year. Will you be one of them?
